چکیده
Abstract A blade element momentum model for predicting the aerodynamic performance of dual-rotor wind turbines (DRWTs) as an design tool is introduced in this paper. The considers inter-rotor axial velocity reduction and tangential components front rotor’s wake to interferences inflow input BEM theory. DRWT with two NREL 5MW rotors studied using present CFD simulations. Results from methods show good agreements each other trends power, thrust, loads on blades despite error near-tip regions. configurations have lower optimum tip speed ratios a wider range high- C P speeds. maximum efficiency turbine improved by only 5%, indicating that dedicated aerodynamics required enhance power output loads.

A semi-analytical model for velocity profile at wind turbine wake using blade element momentum
The shape of wake behind a wind turbine is normally assumed to have a hat shape for the models used in wind farm layout optimization purposes; however, it is know from experimental tests and numerical simulations that this is not a real assumption. In reality, the results of actual measurements and detailed numerical simulation show that the velocity in wake region has a S-shape profile. Th...

متن کاملRotor Design for Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbines
Diffuser augmented wind turbines (DAWTs) can increase mass flow through the rotor substantially, but have often failed to fulfill expectations. We address high-performance diffusers, and investigate the design requirements for a DAWT rotor to efficiently convert the available energy to shaft energy. Several factors can induce wake stall scenarios causing significant energy loss. The causality b...
متن کاملA Novel Dual-Rotor Turbine for Increased Wind Energy Capture
Horizontal axis wind turbines suffer from aerodynamic inefficiencies in the blade root region (near the hub) due to several non-aerodynamic constraints. Aerodynamic interactions between turbines in a wind farm also lead to significant loss of wind farm efficiency. A new dual-rotor wind turbine (DRWT) concept is proposed that aims at mitigating these two losses. A DRWT is designed that uses an e...
